If the blind lead the blind, they both will fall into a ditch.

I know from my own experience growing up Hr. Grace, Newfoundland (my parents were United Church), that liberal churches that have long proclaimed a social gospel (not the saving Gospel of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ) and have resisted evangelistic efforts to reach the lost, even oppose others who try to do so,are declining in attendance and having very little impact, if any, on the community and the world for Christ.

If you look at history, you can see why there is a massive decline of liberal churches. It was the Unitarians and other liberal churches who were responsible for the progressive movement of the late 19th century. They abandoned the belief in God and Jesus for the idea that mankind can create a utopia here on earth. By utopia they mean a massive bureaucratic government that controls all areas of your life. They just want to implement the totalitarian government incrementally instead of by a revolution.

The history books have the progressive movement ending with Wilson but they really went underground and changed the name to liberalism which at the time meant more of a libertarian ideology.

We had almost 10 year break until Hoover and FDR. It was at this time that the Humanist Manifesto popped up in 1933. The signers of the manifesto were mainly Unitarians.

The progressive churches abandoned church for secular humanism and the notion of replacing God with the government. That is why they all talk about social issues and other left wing ideas. This is also why many atheists have a left wing ideology.

The Church that Obama went to for twenty years is a perfect example of a progressive church (To be fair it is probably on the more extreme end of the spectrum). The church was rooted in black liberation theology which is basically Marxism coupled with racism. That is why you never heard Reverend Wright talking about Jesus.

Then there is the logical conclusion that Dr. Craig pointed out, why go to church if Jesus was just a normal person and there is no God?
